Good News Inspiration for Daily Life
Bulletin Insert for October 31, 2021.
Description: In Mark 12:28b-34, Jesus reminds the scribes of the two greatest commands of the Law. He quotes Deuteronomy 6:2-6, which is this Sunday’s first reading. The second reading (Hebrews 7:23-28) explains how the Law of Love supersedes or fulfills all other laws. This bulletin insert for the 31st Sunday of Ordinary Time explains that since we want to follow Christ to heaven, we need to follow in his footsteps of love, by loving God and everyone else whole-heartedly. However, try as we might, we love imperfectly; we sin. The best penance, then, is an act of love, especially if it’s a sacrifice offered to (or for) those who were harmed by our sin.
Ideas for use: Bulletin insert for the 31st Sunday of Ordinary Time, handout for adult faith formation, youth ministry, staff and ministry meetings, faith sharing communities, RCIA, etc.
